West Fife Regeneration Area

The most significant findings emerging from the Fife Regeneration Health and Well Being Study for the West Fife regeneration area are presented below, with comparisons with the position across Fife as a whole. There will be more detailed findings in the West Fife ROA Health and Well Being report, available shortly.

• Low incomes – Of the five regeneration areas, the West Fife ROA area revealed the second highest proportion of residents on low incomes and the highest proportion dissatisfied with the financial services available

• Low educational achievement – the area has the lowest proportion of S4 pupils that attain 5 or more awards at SCQF level 3 or better

• Poor health – West Fife has the second highest mortality rate (to Dunfermline) and significantly higher than across Fife as a whole. It also has one of the highest proportions of residents who do not meet guidelines on taking vigorous exercise and the proportion who smoke and drink alcohol above safe levels are worse than the Fife averages

• Access to Services – West Fife recorded the highest levels of dissatisfaction with local health services and health information and the highest levels of dissatisfaction with activities for teenagers, facilities for young children and parks and open spaces

• Poor physical environment – a high proportion of ROA residents are dissatisfied with the physical appearance of their local area. Dissatisfaction with the appearance of play areas and open spaces is higher than in any of the other regeneration areas and significantly higher than the Fife average
